Saudi Arabia has announced that effective January 2021, expat workers will be banned from working in 117 professions across the engineering sector. The Saudi Council of Engineers has confirmed that foreign engineers with less than five years of experience will no longer be recruited.
The Saudi renewable sector is projected to create 750000 jobs over the next decade. The government is supporting technology transfers in the sustainable energy sectors. This is in line with the Kingdom's plan to generate half of its energy requirements by alternative resources.
Employers can now apply for new work visas for non-resident employees. However, the Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has implemented a new mechanism for the employment of expatriate workers.
